First Aerospace was founded in 2004 (as Air Law Publishing) by Ian Sheppard, a journalist, flying instructor and assistant insurance broker with degrees in Aeronautical Engineering and Law (GDL & LPC). Ian is a member of the Law Society and the Chartered Insurance Institute (CII).

Ian is also Communications Adviser to the General Aviation Awareness Council (GAAC), which advises UK airfields on planning, legal/insurance and other issues while also representing aviation associations to Parliament and the Government in liaison with the APPG for Aviation.
